Biography
Mark Bulmer is a self-taught pianist, composer, performer, and producer of original cinematic solo piano music for tv, film, video games, soundtracks and content - including YouTube history channels with millions of views. As a recording artist he has released five original solo piano albums - the latest being Imperium in March 2025.
Mark's early focus was on chess, which he learned at just six years of age. He won numerous adult open tournaments and multi-board exhibition games, and was expected to pursue a career in chess. However, at 13 he stopped playing altogether to concentrate on soccer. A prolific goalscorer at youth and academy level, he was eventually scouted by professional English teams. But a serious injury at 19 ended any career prospects, so he moved to Florida to have surgery and attend college.
To cope with the frustration of surgery and rehabilitation, Mark began teaching himself the piano. Within weeks, he was composing and memorizing original works, guided entirely by instinct and meditation. He soon started performing at weddings and prestigious hotels, including The Peabody, The Plaza, and The Buena Vista Palace, where he held a six-night-per-week residency for three years. He also performed at the Napoleon in Rome and Bechstein in New York City.
Mark has been the subject of several articles and interviews including Jam Magazine, Lifestyle Magazine & most recently as a special guest on Europe's One World Music Radio where two of his piano solos, Rubicon & Spellbound, both entered the Top 40 (March 2025). Although most likened to George Winston, his personal music taste is very diverse and ranges from classical to progressive metal. His biggest influences are Mozart & Pink Floyd; Whereas his favorite bands are Tool, Opeth and Gojira.
To date, he has composed, recorded, and produced five original piano solo albums. Images was released on CD in 1996. After the Storm, originally a five-track demo from 1993, was reissued with four extra tracks in April 2013, followed by Kōan in 2017. All three albums were remastered with new cover art in 2023. Later that year, he marked his full-time return to music with Paradigm Shift. His most recent album, Imperium (2025), showcases his passion for Ancient Rome and cinematic themes.
Beyond music, Mark is passionate about sports, weightlifting, shooting, and mixed martial arts. He has also written satire for various media. An autodidact polymath and avid reader, he has lifelong fascinations with Roman history, philosophy, quantum mechanics, and simulation theory.
